Main Attractions

• Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil: Jaffna’s premier Hindu shrine, renowned for its towering golden-ochre gopuram (entrance tower) and highly disciplined, vibrant daily rituals. It also hosts the island's longest-running annual.

• Jaffna Fort: The second largest colonial fortress in Sri Lanka. Originally constructed by the Portuguese in 1619 and vastly expanded by the Dutch, its massive coral-and-stone ramparts overlook the scenic Jaffna Lagoon.

• Jaffna Public Library: A majestic, white-structured building that stands as a historic monument to education and resilience, meticulously reconstructed to honor its past legacy as one of Asia's most significant libraries.

• Delft Island (Neduntheevu): A remote, wind-swept island accessible via a local navy ferry. It features unique fences made of dry coral, ruins of a Dutch horse stable, a colossal African baobab tree, and wild ponies left behind by colonial traders.

• Nainativu (Nagadeepa): A sacred island reached by boat that hosts two major spiritual sites sitting side-by-side: the colorful Hindu Naga Pooshani Ambal Kovil and the ancient Nagadeepaya Purana Vihara, a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site.

• Casuarina Beach: Located on Karainagar island, this beach is famous for its shallow, exceptionally calm waters and unique casuarina trees that line the powdery white shore.
